Birds and Bruises
And so, in response to my company's insatiable demand for a bi-weekly newsletter, I find myself writing once more.
What’s been happening on the news front? Let’s see…
Well, firstly a new bird species has been identified in India. It was identified by amateur ornithologist and astronomer Ramana Athreya in the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh, near the border with China. He first spotted it in 1995, but was only able to capture a specimen and make detailed observations this year. The captured birds were released unharmed after detailed documentation.
Christened Liocichla bugunorum, after the Bugun tribe who inhabit the region, it is the first new bird species identified in India for over 50 years.
And look! Isn’t it cute (picture courtesy AP):

Personally, I'm thrilled that the dude caught them carefully, took a bunch of pics and then released them. Makes a nice change from the fate of the ivory-billed woodpecker, which (despite the recent possible re-discovery) was already thought to be extinct in the 1920s. Then, incredibly, a pair of the birds appeared in Florida - and were promptly shot for specimens.
It's nice to know that the birding community has advanced a little since then...

Apart from that, the only other important news is that for all you sports-freaks out there, you may want to be careful of over-using Voltaren for muscle and joint pain. A new study of NSAIDs has shown a significantly increased risk of heart attack associated with diclofenac.
The American Food and Drug Administration said that they did not find the results conclusive, but that the report warranted further review.
Why must they take away all our good drugs? :)
